Most of us have fond childhood memories of carnivals – the sights and sounds and smells, the thrill of our first Carousel ride, the joy of winning a stuffed doll, the ecstasy of cotton candy and fried dough.
But only later do we begin to see and appreciate the reality that keeps this fantasy world alive. These images attempt to show not only the illusion but the behind-the-scenes reality and the people that make it happen – their hard work, long days, loneliness and camaraderie.
